Dominic at the CI Traders RegattaSails were hoisted in earnest as the inaugural CI Traders Guernsey Regatta began at the weekend. In the region of 180 visiting yachts are expected for the event – part of SeaGuernsey – which runs until Sunday 11th September.

A variety of entertainment will be on offer in the harbour area with the focal point on the Albert Pier with a tented bar, restaurant and stage. Music sessions will be held daily between noon and 2.00pm and from 7.30pm.

GU10 was one of the first acts to take to the stage with their mixture of shanties and songs of the sea. Spokesman Neil Archer described the unit as a ‘manufactured boy band’. ‘We don’t take ourselves too seriously’ he said.

The band was formed earlier this year as part of SeaGuernsey and the response at its shows has been good. ‘It’s been phenomenal,’ said Mr Archer. ‘We were expecting initially to do about half-a-dozen shows but it will probably be closer to double that’. GU10 is working up to next month’s Trafalgar Ball at Beau Sejour, which will mark the last of the SeaGuernsey 2005 events.

Many took time out to enjoy the festivities on Saturday and make the most of the fine weather.
