Shanty group celebrate Wave of support
Guernsey group GU10 will be in fine sound for this season’s performances thanks to a Wave of support from a local telecommunications company.
Wave Telecom has helped the musical group get their hands on a much-needed sound system to set them up for a number of gigs this summer.
GU10 takes its name from a Guernsey registered fishing vessel and was launched last year to coincide with the Year of the Sea. The ten members have already proved a great hit at a number of local events where they have performed various sea shanties and songs about the sea.
Wave heard they needed help in obtaining a new sound system and so have sponsored some new equipment, including microphones, a mixer and powered speakers. ‘Captain’ Peter Falla, one of the founding members of GU10, said they are hugely grateful for Wave’s support…
“The company has enabled us to obtain a sound system that will suit a variety of gigs, at a variety of venues. Last year we soon became conscious that with the broad range of events we were asked to perform at, combined with the very vocal sound we produce, a suitable sound system needed to be found,’ he said.
GU10 have a hectic summer tour… The first event will be on Liberation Day at the Wave World of Freedom on the Albert Pier. Then later in the year they will be present at Alderney Week in August and Sark’s Celebration of the Sea event in September.
